Here is a Q&A with singer songwriter David Chapman. We talk about his experiences in music.
Where did it all start for you getting into music?
It all started when I was watching my brother Ashley, playing the guitar he just inspired me so I picked it up and started learning. My mum bought me a guitar for Christmas.
Who are your influences?
My influences are Ed Sheeran, A bit of Oasis, Michael Jackson and a bit of Elvis Presley.
With songwriting where do you tend to get your inspiration from e.g how do you start your songs & what's your process?
With my songwriting I tend to get my inspirations from other songs or from my family as they are all musical they've inspired me a lot. I normally start my songs with the lyrics first then I like to work on the melody.
How important is it do you feel it is to listen to current music as well as music from the past?
I think it's very important to listen to current music as well as music from the past as they are both amazing. The current music is just as good as the past, the past had such good legends like Michael Jackson and Elvis and Prince.
Do you feel it is important to watch other acts perform and to watch other live music?
Yeah I feel it is important to watch other acts perform as you can learn what they are doing. You can also turn it into your own style and you can also take advice of other acts.
Finally what tips do you have for anyone starting out when it comes to songwriting & performing?
Tips for other songwriters and performers is just be yourself don't give up always believe in yourself. If you're writing a song and you don't think it's any good perform it infront of an audience. Watching how the audience reacts is a great way of getting feedback.
